At the peek of the coffee boom and before the construction of the Atlantic Railroad, oxcarts were used to transport coffee beans all over Costa Rica. The tradition of painting and decorating oxcarts started in the early twentieth century. Originally, each region of Costa Rica had its own particular design, enabling the identification of the driver's origin by the painted patterns on the wheels. The design of the wheels became a matter of pride among the families and just as they took pride in their carts Kattia's bakery takes pride in delivering a high quality product to their customers. The rich patterns of the ox-cart wheels not only reflect Kattia's rich costa Rican Heritage but also the love of her family and sharing her treats with them.
Era Bar & Grill
“Era” inspired by the artistic influence of Joan Mitchell’s natural expressionism. Derived straight from the definition of the word ‘era’, meaning a specific period of time from start to end, the customers will be drawn into the drama of the narrative from the moment they enter the front doors up until the time they exit. Using an array of lines, asymmetry balance, high contrast, negative space, color, and sparkle lighting ‘Era’ will bring Joan’s painting to life, almost as if transported into the painting itself.
The Makonde Team is a non-profit organization who want to see more of God’s reign in Tanzania. Their mission is to disciple God-seekers while using their resources in healthcare, agriculture, and water development, to bless their neighbors. The main aim for the Donor card campaign is for the cardholders to feel good about their ultimate generosity of helping the Makonde in Tanzania.
With this in mind, my goal was to design a card that represents the Makonde people while incorporating the main aim of the Donard card. I chose colors, pattern and textures that are commonly seen in their lifestyle.
